Supporting the Stanney Grange Community Centre

The Hydrogen Village team was pleased to get involved with the refurbishment of the Stanney Grange Community Centre – a community led organisation which provides a range of cultural, leisure and educational activities for local people.

The toilet block at the centre was in a dilapidated state and required significant work to bring it up to standard. The team, from Cadent and British Gas, spent a week volunteering on the site and learning more about the great work that the centre does in the community, such as providing hot dinners and food parcels to those in need.

Following our work at the centre, the Hydrogen Experience Centre will also become a drop-off location for donations to the community centre and we encourage visitors to donate any non-perishable food items or household products to help us to continue providing support.

Barry Statham, Technical Officer from Cadent and Ellesmere Port resident, said: ‘Our Social Value programme focuses on, among other things, ‘enabling adults to live longer, healthier and happier lives’. The work we’ve been able to help with at the Community Centre will mean that the centre can continue its great work within the local area and we’re delighted we were able to support them in this way.’

Tracey Jones, Co-Founder and Chair of The People Pantry, based at Stanney Grange Community Centre, said: “The Cadent and British Gas team have visited the Community Centre several times before, during and since the work has been carried out; they have always been helpful, left the area clean and tidy.

“The toilets were not usable until this work was completed as they had been damaged by a previous user. This work has enabled us to open for more activities, with more users. We would like to thank Barry and his team; and all the personnel for the work they have carried out.”

To continue supporting the community centre, the Hydrogen Experience Centre is now a drop-off location for donations and we encourage visitors to donate any items they may have spare. The centre is particularly keen for donations in the following categories:

  • Baby formula
  • Dried or storable food
  • Sanitary products
  • Home cleaning products

This support was part of our social value outreach programme, which has seen us deliver skills, training, and funding opportunities to organisations in the local community. We have plenty more lined up for the rest of the year, which we look forward to sharing with you in due course.
