Whitby Hydrogen Village Handbook

As part of our engagement activity for the Hydrogen Village programme in Whitby, Ellesmere Port, Cadent and British Gas have been creating a booklet full of need-to-know information about the programme, which is being delivered to every property within the proposed Hydrogen Village area.

The Hydrogen Village Handbook is designed to give the community as much information as possible at this stage of the Hydrogen Village programme timeline. As well as information about the hydrogen heating journey, you’ll find illustrative examples of the appliances that may be available to replace your existing appliances that burn natural gas, such as boilers and cookers, and the factors you might want to consider as the programme progresses.

If you’re a local resident or business and you haven’t had your in-home hydrogen assessment yet, you can also find out how to book this in – and receive your free British Gas service – ahead of the winter months.

What’s next?

This booklet is designed to help inform an expression of intent from you about which energy technologies you would like to opt for, if the Hydrogen Village programme goes ahead in Whitby.

We’ll be in touch by telephone to talk this through with you, or you can visit us at the Hydrogen Experience Centre to discuss it with our local experts in more detail.

Any expression of intent you make at this stage of the programme won’t be legally binding, but rather it will help us to understand who intends to adopt hydrogen technologies if the gas network is converted to supply hydrogen gas from 2025. Importantly, this information will be shared with Ofgem and BEIS to help inform their decision about which community receives the investment offered by the Hydrogen Village programme.

If Whitby is selected for this pioneering project, we’ll undertake a more detailed survey of your home or business and speak to you again to let you know what specific appliances are available to you. Before conversion to hydrogen takes place, we’ll also work with you to draw up a legal contract.
